Saved From a Fall

As I watched the five-to six-year-old girls basketball game, there was an unexpected halt to the play. My cute little great-granddaughter was across the line ready to receive the ball when the referee held up his hand and blew the whistle to pause the game. He was a tall man close to six feet, seven inches. But in that moment of pause, this big man got on his knee in front of our sweet girl and tied her shoe to save her from a fall. My heart melted looking at this tall man come down from his height to protect her as she played the game.

Thinking about this later, I pictured what God did for us. He is bigger than life, yet he came down to earth to protect us from the fall. We can proceed through life knowing that we are secure. Our laces are tied, so to speak, extending from God’s love to our heart. He became the God Man named Jesus who guides us, play by play, through life by His Spirit.

But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us – not by works of righteousness that we had done, But according to His mercy – through the washing of regeneration And renewal by the Holy Spirit. He poured out this Spirit on us abundantly Through Jesus Christ our Savior so that, having been justified by His grace, We may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.

Titus 3:4-7 (HCSB)
